    Inner Sunshine

    Planet Mu

John Kowalski and Rian Trench, the two members of Planet Mu's new signing Polar Bear, met at the Pulse Sound Engineering School in Dublin, Ireland. This taster EP precedes their full-length album She Was Coloured In, to be released this fall. The pair's multi-faceted sound mixes the rich colors of hip-hop-inflected analog electronica and touches of the shimmering neon synths of late-'70s / early-'80s Kosmische music (Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulz, Popul Vuh).

    Available August 9th, 2010

  • Jee Day

    Like A Child

    Dfa

“It only takes one listen to Jee Day's "Like A Child" - and its whirling, hypnotic rush - to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz Dennis "DJ" McNany a go-to source in New York City's dance music scene. Over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: Fine tuning releases from outfits such as The Rapture and Turing Machine; working on early output from DFA Records; maintaining his own Run Roc label; remixing artists like Panthers, Ghostape and Digable Planet's Ladybug Mecca; and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with The Juan Maclean.

    Available August 10th, 2010

  • Heads, The

    Relaxing With The Heads

    Rooster

Relaxing With. is The Heads' debut album, first released in 1996. This reissue, remastered and boosted with extras, has been a long time coming. Amidst a world suffocating in Britpop smarm, The Heads' debut cut a timely swath of unkempt psychedelic rock into the face of the English underground.

    Available August 16th, 2010

  • Venetian Snares

    My So-called Life

    Timesig

A lesson in mutant jungle, My So-Called Life rips up the taste and decency rulebook and mashes up ten songs in the characteristic style of breakcore king Venetian Snares (a.k.a. Aaron Funk). "Posers with Camera Phones" sets the standard: Melody? Check. Jungle breaks? Check. Tongue-in-cheek offensive sample? Check.

    Available August 23rd, 2010

  • Ikonika

    Dckhdbtch

    Planet Mu

Ikonika returns to Planet Mu following her debut album on Hyperdub and lots of work as an in-demand remixer and a brilliant DJ. In contrast to the recent album, these three new tracks have a sad, emotional quality and pared-down, minimal production that shares as much with techno as it does with dubstep.

  • Efterklang

    Tripper + Springer (Special Edition)

    Leaf

The Leaf Label is proud to present special double-CD editions of the first two full-length Efterklang albums, together with their accompanying EPs, in deluxe foldout card packaging with new 16-page booklets. 2004's Tripper album is paired with the five-track Springer mini-album that preceded it in 2003, while watershed second album Parades is joined by the long out-of-print Under Giant Trees mini-album.

    Available August 24th, 2010

  • Crystal Ark

    Tangible Presence Of The Miraculous

    Dfa

If there is a driving motive at the heart of Gavin Russom's latest project The Crystal Ark, it is to create music that communicates and compels physicality and movement. The group's first single, aptly named "The City Never Sleeps" (DFA2241), is as tireless as the title suggests--an invocation to move, crafted by a visionary.

    Available August 24th, 2010

  • Man’s Gin

    Smiling Dogs

    Profound Lore

Man's Gin was born in Colorado when Cobalt multi-instrumentalist Erik Wunder and a friend took up their their acoustic guitars and a bottle of cheap liquor and began writing lonely tributes to the drink in which they were drowning their sorrows. The collaboration yielded a batch of home-recorded songs they called The Rum Demos, and circulated among their small circle of friends.

    Available August 24th, 2010

  • Limes

    Rhinestone River

    Goner

Memphis is home to several of rock's most endearingly off-kilter rock storytellers, from Jim Dickinson to Jeffrey Evans to Ross Johnson. To that list, one can now add Shawn Cripps, leader of The Limes.  On the band's debut full-length, Rhinestone River, Cripps retains the musical talents of Harlan T.

  • Intelligence

    Males

    In The Red

Males is the sixth full-length release from Seattle, Washington's The Intelligence. This time, main-brain Lars Finberg ditched his usual method of recording all the instruments himself and had his current touring band play on it--Susannah Welbourne, Beren Ekine Huett (Eat Skull) and Chris Woodhouse (Mayyors, FM Knives, Karate Party), who also served as the record's producer.

    Available August 24th, 2010

  • Knights Of The New Crusade

    Knight Vision

    Alternative Tentacles

The Christian rock scene is replete with slick, careerist bands whose lyrics gingerly tread on the ecumenical outskirts of religious allusions in an attempt to alienate as few mainstream rock consumers as possible. It's no wonder that The Knights of the New Crusade, with their resolute unconcern for compromise (Matthew 16:26), became a flashpoint for contention in both the Christian and secular rock music worlds.
